University of the Arts showing works from joint project with Liberty Academy
Thursday, February 9
5:30 PM – 7:30 PM
Philadelphia Center for Architecture
1218 Arch Street
Philadelphia, PA 19107
The show is primarily about "green" architecture. The University of the Arts is showing projects with Liberty as a statement that a truly sustainable society must consider people first. This is called "Human Centered Design." The boards feature large photos of the UArts students working with Liberty people.
In the photo below, Marsha Peurifoy from Liberty Resources is working with great concentration on an electrical circuit together with a University of the Arts student, Chia Ying Yu. Both show great focus and are squeezed together standing shoulder to shoulder as they work together.

Candidate Sourcing Diversity Recruiting Partners

As a diversity recruiting partner, The Sierra Group, attended a resource fair for People with Disabilities at Tiffany & Co. on October 13, 2011.

In conjunction with Disability Mentoring Day, The Academy had representatives at The Philadelphia Business Journal’s Best Places to Work event in October. For the first time, this event honored companies that hired people with disabilities.
Student of the Quarter
Our Student of the Quarter award is reserved for special instances in which an Academy student far exceeds the expectations of our program. Students who win this award not only display competitive workplace and academic skills, but also an exceptional interest in improving the environment around them. Read about our most recent Student of the Quarter, Reynaldo Briones.
Community Partnerships
The only school of its kind, The Academy always looks to increase its presence in the community through partnerships with local businesses and universities. The University of the Arts Industrial Design students took a special interest in several Academy students and consumers of Liberty Resources. The University of the Arts students have paired with 5 people with disabilities to learn how micro-controllers can be an empowerment tool for people with disabilities in their daily lives. This blog chronicles their journey.
